About 2nd Opinion Automotive
We Exist Because Nobody Else Teaches This.
There are thousands of resources that teach you how to fix your car. There was nothing that taught you how to deal with the people who fix your car. Until now.
Background
A Business Built on a Gap Nobody Was Filling.
2nd Opinion Automotive is a consumer education company focused on one mission: giving everyday drivers the knowledge to make confident, informed decisions about their vehicles.
The automotive service industry has been around for over a century, and in all that time, one thing has never changed: the customer is expected to trust the process without understanding it. There are certifications for mechanics, training programs for service advisors, and sales playbooks for dealerships — but nothing that prepares the person paying the bill.
We saw a gap that affected nearly every driver on the road and built a company to close it. Not with tools or parts — but with education. Plain-language guides, checklists, and resources that teach you how the repair industry actually works, so you can stop guessing and start making decisions based on facts.
Our Why
The Numbers Tell the Story.
Between 66% and 89% of drivers report feeling overcharged after a shop visit. That's not a handful of bad shops — that's a systemic knowledge gap affecting the majority of people on the road.
Think about it — you learn math in school, you learn how to manage a budget, but nobody ever teaches you how to handle one of the biggest recurring expenses of your adult life: car repair.
So when the service advisor hands you a $1,200 estimate with eight line items, you do one of two things: approve everything and hope for the best, or decline everything and pray nothing breaks. We built 2nd Opinion Automotive to give you a third option: understand what you're looking at and make a confident decision.

Advocates in Your Corner
We Don't Fix Cars. We Fix the Way You Deal With Shops.
2nd Opinion Automotive isn't a repair shop, a parts supplier, or a roadside service. We're something that didn't exist before — a consumer advocate for car owners. We sit on your side of the counter and make sure you have the information you need before you spend a dollar.
Because we don't fix cars and we don't sell parts, we have zero financial interest in whether you spend money on your vehicle or not. Our only job is to make sure that when you do — it's the right amount, for the right work, at the right time. That's a perspective no shop, dealer, or parts store can offer you.
Think of us as the smart older brother you call before approving a repair. Except you don't need to call anyone — because you already have the answers.

About the Founder
I've Been on Every Side of the Counter.
I'm Tim — and cars have been my life for as long as I can remember. Not just professionally. Personally. I've spent thousands of hours under hoods, researching parts, chasing down the best deals, building projects on a budget, and putting vehicles through their paces on the track. I've been the guy at the parts counter comparing brands and price points because every dollar mattered. That never stopped.
Professionally, I've seen the automotive industry from every angle. I've worked behind the counter at parts stores, turned wrenches at independent shops, managed service lanes at dealerships, and spent the bulk of my 15+ year career as a service advisor — the person sitting across from you explaining what your car needs and what it's going to cost.
Thousands of conversations. Thousands of estimates. I got really good at that job — good for the shop, but more importantly, good for the customer. I learned early on that the advisors who take the time to educate are the ones who build real trust. The ones who rush you through a repair order are the ones you never go back to.
But here's what kept eating at me: I could only help the people who walked into my shop. Millions of drivers out there were making blind decisions every day — approving work they didn't understand, overpaying for repairs they could've questioned, or skipping maintenance that would've saved them a fortune down the road. And nobody was teaching them any of this.
So I built 2nd Opinion Automotive. Everything I learned working in shops, everything I learned wrenching on my own cars, and everything I learned spending my own money on parts and repairs — packaged into plain-language resources that any driver can use to make smarter decisions and keep their family safe on the road.
